Villa Valentine
Barnhouse 'Le Balcon du Ciel'
Villa Valentine Villa Valentine is a so-called 'longere', a longhouse (25 meters long) dating from around 1850. It was named after the first inhabitants, farmer and wife Valentin and Valentine and the village Villapourcon to which the hamlet where it lies belongs.
It consists of two parts: at the front was the farmhouse where Valentine used to live, at the back the barn and the stables where the animals were kept. Both houses have their own private terraces and a separate piece of garden. They can be hired separately (minimum stay is one week).
The front house we call 'La Maison de Valentine'. The old farmhouse is a charming ,simple and authentic place, where the farmer and his wife used to live .It has been respectfully renovated, bringing facilities up to date, while keeping its old rustic charm.
The barn and stables have been converted into a beautiful barn conversion which has a lovely covered veranda of more than twenty square meters. Here you have breathtaking views of the valley, the skies and the green hills. That is why we call it ' Le Balcon du Ciel', meaning 'The Balcony of Heaven', after a poem by the French poet Rimbaud. Truly a place to let your mind run freely and relax.

The barn conversion is set in a garden of approximately a thousand square meters with several terraces. You enter the barn conversion from the main south facing terrace into the kitchen diner. It has a cosy original Burgundy mantelpiece, where you can enjoy a glass of wine in front of the open fireplace in one of the two armchairs. In the kitchen you also find a big wooden dining table. There is a French ceiling with big oak beams and a traditional terracotta tiled floor. The kitchen is equipped with modern amenities such as a dishwasher, a large size design gas oven and a stylish SMEG fridge.
From the kitchen the stairs take you up to the vast and spacious living room with an oak wooden floor, with six meter high ceilings and wooden beams, with French doors leading to the covered veranda with spectacular views. In the living room you will find a big confortable lounge sofa and a round table with chairs. The covered veranda also has a hard wooden table with four chairs and two armchairs.
Also on the first floor you will find the master bedroom with a comfortable boxspring double bed (size 2x1,60 meters), cupboards with old wooden French window shutters and a small make up table. Right next to the bedroom is the bathroom with a separate rain shower, an antique cast-iron bath tub with claw feet, a toilet and a wash basin.
From the living room you can access the open mezzanine above the bedroom via a small open staircase where you find a spare double bed (2x1.6 meters) and have views of the living room. The garden has a lawn with lovely views over quiet green hills, a big south facing terrace in front of the kitchen with a wooden table and chairs and a small shaded terrace under a tree overlooking the valley where you can sit and read a book when the sun is too hot. The barn conversion is ideal for a couple and not really suited for small children. View photos of the barnhouse

Near Villapourcon is a small farmer hamlet with some twenty five houses and barns. The houses in the hamlet are built in natural stone (in French called 'pierres apparentes'). The village lies on a hill on the edge of a forest at an altitude of approximately five hundred meters. A perfect environment for long walks and cow watching! Or just lie in the hammock in the garden and do nothing.
